Rubber Mulch play surfaces

The third instalment in our series of playground surfaces look at rubber mulch.

Rubber Mulch play surfaces

Firstly, when it comes to rubber mulch it is important to differentiate it from other rubber surfacing, particularly wet pour. Rubber Mulch consists of larger shredded rubber pieces combined with a solvent free binder. These larger rubber piece give Rubber Mulch a unique texture and appearance, highly suited to a variety of installations. Rubber Mulch is also very adaptive to awkward landscapes; for example, undulating surfacing, hills and slopes.

The surface is often used as a replacement for traditional wooden bark chipping. Rubber Mulch does not wash or blow away like wooden bark. Also it is not subject to compacting or rotting and maintains its integrity all year round

The composition and texture of rubber crumb makes it a very durable and hard wearing surface. This is particular beneficial in heavily mudded areas, or areas where traffic can be heavy.

Rubber Mulch is also suited to play areas where apparatus is installed. The rubber mulch layer combined with a suitable flexible base provides an impact absorbing quality allowing for safe play.

Rubber Mulch is available in a number of colours, which can be used a single solid colours or mixed together to create blends. Popular colours include, blue, green and brown.

Similar to wet pour, Rubber Mulch is also porous, meaning water drains through the surface making it suitable for use all year round. The surface is also clean, hygienic and does not attract animals which a traditional wooden bark flooring might.

Rubber Mulch also requires very little maintenance.
