Rubber Mulch surfacing for playgrounds and landscaping

Rubber Mulch is a low maintenance alternative to traditional bark often used in play areas and play grounds near to play equipment. A form of soft surface, Rubber Mulch is a beneficial material to use in your playground as it offers all the benefits of a traditional bark surface but without any of the drawbacks.

The use of Rubber Mulch surfaces

Rubber Mulch Surfacing is used as a playground surface or it can be used as a decorative surface in landscaping. It is available in a range of standard colours as well as in in 50/50 colour mixes or three colours mixed together.

When rubber mulch is used as a playground surface it acts as a safety surface for children to play on, similar to wetpour the depth of the surface will be dependent on the potential critical fall height to ensure that the rubber mulch safety surface is adequate.

When used as a safety surface it must meet health and safety conditions, DCM Surfaces will ensure that all materials laid are thick enough in consistency to endure the Critical Fall Height specified and to ensure that any possible fall from equipment would be well cushioned by the Rubber mulch provided.

What is Rubber Mulch made from?

The mulch surfacing is made from 100% recycled rubber; made from non-toxic and environmentally friendly materials it is an ideal choice for many playgrounds.

Another use for rubber mulch surfacing is in gardens as part of landscaping design. It can help to separate out areas and add a defined area separate to the rest. When used it will not fade, rot or compress so it really keeps its shape; it looks identical to wood mulch and will last for ages even after years of exposure to the elements.

Unlike real bark 'topping up' or regular raking is not required, Rubber Mulch will not rot or degrade, it is also more eco-friendly than bark; it does not attract animals and will not wash or blow away in any windy conditions.

The rubber mulch surfacing can be laid onto existing concrete, stone and existing grass or soil surfaces. We strongly recommend a site inspection prior to installation to ensure the base is suitable and so the finish is not compromised.

How long after laying the surface can it be used?

The surface is normally available for use within 3-4 hours, although as the curing time is weather dependent, it is advisable to leave it until the following day.
