The Importance of Sport in Schools

Education – for many this is probably one of the most important factors of our lives and from a very young age children work their way through the education system before being able to make their own decisions about whether to continue their learning through college, university and further education.
As part of our educational syllabus we are expected to learn about a number of subjects however, one of particular interest to us is physical education and sport as these have a massive part to play within the education system.

Sport and physical education is fundamental to the early development of children; the skills which are learned during play can be applied to other applications later on in life. Sport teaches key values such as:

  • Teamwork
  • Respect
  • Honesty
  • Passion
  • Hard work
  • Obedience
  • Discipline
  • Compassion

What is great about physical education and sport and why it becomes so important in schools is because of the core values it teaches but in addition to this it also teaches children about how to be a good sportsman and how to deal with competition and the situation of winning or in some circumstances even loosing.

These learning aspects prove to be invaluable and the positive impact of physical education and sport on a child’s social and moral development is something which has to continue which is why sport is so important in schools and throughout life.

One of the main reasons why sport is also important in schools as well is that it promotes a healthy lifestyle when combined with healthy eating. There are many positive effects which can be achieved and sports and exercise helps with physical health, growth and development.

Studies have been shown to significantly increase the learning performance of children and young people – being active leads to an active brain!

Many schools are now realising the importance of physical education and sport as a subject. Whilst the most part is practical based there is some classroom based knowledge which needs to be learnt. For the practical aspect of the subject sports facilities are required and now many schools, colleges and universities are investing heavily in state of the art sports equipment and gym equipment.

As space can sometimes be limited many opt to have MUGAs – Multi Purpose Games Areas which is in effect what it says! They can have one area, professionally surfaced in an appropriate sports pitch surface and then have the option to have multiple sports pitch markings in place.

A popular choice now for many are the artificial sports pitch surfaces where artificial grass is used. This is extremely easy to maintain and when combined with the use of a shock pad injury is minimised should someone slip, trip or fall on the surface as their impact will be effectively absorbed.

DCM Surfaces specialise in both MUGA’s and also the artificial sports pitches. We already install our sports pitch surfacing in a number of schools, colleges and sports centres throughout the UK.

All of our team are CRB/DBS checked and are highly experienced at what they do. You can rest assured that when you get a sports pitch surface from us you’re in the best of hands!

Give your children the best start to live, realise the importance of sports in school and start investing in state of the art sports facilities.
