MACADAM
A surface made of compressed layers of small broken stones, bound together with tar or asphalt.

MOT TYPE 1 (DOT TYPE 1) – RECOMMENDED FOR USE
A permeable sub-base that is formed using recycled crushed concrete and consists of rubble of varying size, from 40mm to dust. It compacts well to form a solid base which works well for permeable surfaces such as Wetpour and Mulch.

MOT TYPE 3 (DOT TYPE 3) – NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE
A crushed and graded material, such as granite, whinstone or concrete that has been screeded to create an open, reduced fines aggregate. Type 3 is also permeable. However, the rock type is very large. This means that more regulating is required onsite.

MUGA TYPE 5
Artificial grass areas (MUGAs or AGPs) with a shockpad and either heavily doused with water before play or dressed with sand or rubber crumb. These areas are used for sports such as hockey, five-a-side football, football, lacrosse, American football and training for activities such as athletics, rugby union and rugby league.
