Self-Binding Gravel Surfacing Creating a Natural Effect & Firm Finish Through the Compression of Gravel and Gravel Fines
Self-Binding Gravel is an easy to lay alternative to traditional materials such as flags, paving, macadam or concrete. It enhances any setting, is available in a full range of natural colours and is particularly well suited to rural landscapes.
Used widely on woodland paths, cycle and bridle ways and it can be seen at some of the country's most prestigious stately homes and many of the most beautiful National Trust and English Heritage gardens.
Strong, versatile and semi porous Rok – bind gravel has natural setting properties that bind the gravel together when rolled, to provide a self-compacted firm surface, which remains firmer under foot than conventional loose gravel.
A more unique product which is favoured by many of our customers who really want the natural effect of gravel but with a firmer finish; self-binding gravel is widely used on woodland paths and around stately homes and heritage properties although it has a wide range of other applications.
Self-binding gravel differs from the other surfacing such as bound gravel and bonded gravel surfaces in that the finer pieces of material are not removed. Instead the fines are used to help compact the product and improve its self-binding ability.
The self-binding gravel has to be applied onto a solid sub-base and when this is applied the fines and the particles actually join together and then compact in order to form a surface that will not wash away or move around everywhere it is compact but not “permanently hard” like say a macadam surface would be.
For the most part self-binding gravel can be dug out a few years after being installed and then crumbled and reused elsewhere if necessary although there are obviously certain exceptions to this.
A cheaper alternative to some of our other surfaces self binding gravel provides low level maintenance but a natural looking surface which is ideal for pathways, nature trails, bridleways and canal tow paths.
You have probably walked over self-binding gravel countless times and never realised that this was actually what it was! We have a full range of self-binding gravel available; if you would like any further information or to discuss this further then please do not hesitate to contact a member of our team who will be more than happy to help.
