Disclosure and Barring Service [DBS]

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is a UK government agency responsible for helping employers and organisations make safer recruitment decisions by providing them access to criminal records and other relevant information about job applicants.

The DBS checks on employers’ behalf to identify whether job applicants have any previous convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The service also provides information about individuals on the barred lists, which means they are prohibited from working with vulnerable groups, such as at-risk children or adults.

The DBS was formed in 2012 following the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) merger and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) merger. The DBS operates under the Home Office and works with various organisations, including schools, healthcare providers, charities, and businesses, to help protect vulnerable people from harm.

All DCM Surfaces staff are DBS checked and many with Enhanced DBS.
