Project Overview
DCM delivered a comprehensive, multi-phase surfacing solution across seven distinct zones to provide variety in texture, color, and function:
The Installation
Commencing in June 2024, DCM managed a complex, phased installation across seven distinct zones. Because site access was restricted, the team coordinated the advance delivery of materials, utilising a phased plan to lift supplies to rooftop areas. The work was carried out with the team adhering to strict daily site inductions and safety protocols.
Surfacing Solutions & Play Features
The project utilised a diverse range of specialist surfaces to meet both safety and sensory requirements:
-
Vibrant Wet Pour & Graphics: Extensive areas of multi-colored EPDM were installed, featuring a red road track with zebra crossings and parking bays. Interactive preformed graphics—including a 3D crocodile head, turtles, ladybirds, and multiple hopscotches—were integrated to stimulate play and learning.
-
Specialist Rooftop & MUGA: A significant rooftop installation combined geotextile membranes, a rubber-gravel mix, and artificial grass with a shock pad. Additionally, a 625m2 Polymeric MUGA was finished with a blue anti-slip coating and lined for basketball, football, and tennis.
-
Natural Texture: Over 600m2 of Rubber Mulch in green and blue “Eco Surface” tones were laid to provide a softer, more natural aesthetic for the school’s external social zones.
Result The completed school stands as a benchmark for SEND provision, offering an inclusive and inspiring environment where pupils can thrive. By balancing high-performance sports surfacing with creative sensory play areas, DCM Surfaces helped realise a vision that provides enormous social value to the Stockport community.
