Project Overview: Creation of a multi-functional, enriching outdoor environment for KS1 children, including sports, play, socialisation, quiet reading, and imaginative activities.
Surface Area: 981m² (various surfaces)

Installation Details

Sudley Infant School approached DCM to transform its outdoor environment into a dynamic and enriching space tailored to the needs of Key Stage 1 (KS1) children. The goal was to provide various zones that cater to sports, play, quiet reading, and imaginative activities, with equipment designed to support both growth and confidence-building challenges as the children develop.

DCM Surfaces was entrusted with the project, involving the excavation of existing areas, installation of new surfacing, play equipment, MUGA fencing, and shelter to create an inclusive, functional, and visually appealing space.

The project began with the excavation of 480m² existing surfacing, followed by the installation of a geo-textile weed membrane and a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base to ensure a stable foundation.

Tarmac Surfacing was applied for the Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) base, along with a pathway that connects various playground areas, creating smooth transitions between activity zones.

Premium Surfacing Included:
– Nearly 350m² of EcoMulch in sand, green, and blue, providing an eco-friendly, soft surface.
– 200m² of black EPDM sports surfacing with anti-slip spray, complete with a school logo for a high-quality, safe sports area.
– Over 1000m² of vibrant Wetpour in light blue, green, red, purple, yellow, and pink, offering a colorful and engaging play surface.

Additionally, DCM Surfaces installed play equipment specifically designed for KS1 children, encouraging both physical development and imaginative play. Shelters, shade sails, and a gazebo were added to create shaded areas for quiet activities and socialisation.
