Resin bound gravel is a durable, porous surface system that combines aggregate with resin to create a smooth, visually stunning, and high-strength finish. Ideal for driveways, pathways, and walkways, this bound gravel surface is SUDS compliant, ensuring effective water drainage and preventing pooling. Available in various colours and blends, resin bound gravel is slip-resistant, weed-resistant, and resistant to sinking, making it a low-maintenance alternative to traditional block paving.
With a seamless, natural appearance, resin bound gravel can incorporate custom graphics or match exterior masonry, adding both style and function. Backed by BBA testing for strength and durability, resin bound gravel offers an attractive, lasting solution for any outdoor space.
Bound Gravel is a high-performance SUDS compliant, porous aggregate bound system.
Available in a range of colours and blends, the gravel surface is extremely hard wearing and provides visually stunning finishes. Unlike block paving, bound gravel is slip-resistant, weed resistant, and does not sink under extended use. This makes it the ideal, low-maintenance surface for driveways, pathways and walkways.
Resin Bound Gravel is bound with resin to form a smooth, natural appearance. Coloured gravel can be used to incorporate graphics and designs or to match exterior masonry. After months of testing the BBA have endorsed the system for its high strength, SUDS compliance, and its excellent track record.

BOUND GRAVEL INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE – Download
Bound gravel is a low maintenance product. However, it should undergo routine and operational inspection and maintenance to keep it in optimum condition.
Resin bound surfaces are intended to be used by normal pedestrian or vehicular traffic for which they have been designed. Protection should be provided wherever possible against abnormal damage. Heavy objects, such as waste skips, should not be dragged across the surface and protection should be provided during building and construction work to avoid unsightly contamination from oil, grease, cement and dirt. Spillage of solvents should be avoided as these will soften and damage the resin binder
Q. What is the difference between resin bound gravel and bonded gravel?
Bound gravel has a smooth texture and is porous, whereas bonded gravel has a rough texture and is not porous.
Q. Does resin bound gravel require maintenance?
A. Resin bound gravel should be swept regularly to avoid a build-up of debris, resulting in the surface becoming less porous.
Q. What can resin bound gravel be laid on?
A. Resin bound gravel is to be installed onto a minimum of 50mm AC14 open texture binder course.
Q. Can vehicles be driven on resin bound gravel?
A. The stone aggregate and resin are extremely hard-wearing, so vehicles can be driven on the surface. However, there may be a required depth that the surface must be laid to, depending on what the surface is going to be used for.
Q. What size aggregate is used for the resin bound surfacing?
A. A 1-3mm or 2-5mm aggregate is the most popular size used for a driveway, terrace or path, ensuring the internal build-up of the surfacing is a tight, well-bound mixture, with the right amount of cavitation for permeability. We recommend a minimum depth of 20mm for a driveway and a minimum depth of 16mm for a path or terrace.
For tree pits, we would recommend a 5-8mm or 10mm size aggregate to achieve optimum strength and porosity.
Q. Will there be any changes to the resin bound surfacing during extreme weather?
A. The resin bound surfacing has cavitation with the mixture, so water will run through the surface and back into the ground. This prevents the water from pooling on top of the surface, causing a freezing problem. Again, due to the cavitation with the mixture, the resin bound surface will remain cooler than asphalt or concrete during extreme heat due to air circulating through it.
Q. What temperature should resin bound gravel be laid in?
A. The air temperature should be a minimum of 5 degrees and the surface temperature should be a minimum of 3 degrees above dew point (the temperature at which condensations forms).
